On Monday, August 21st a partial eclipse will be viewable in Arizona between 9am and noon. This is an excellent educational opportunity, but it also raises safety concerns. Scientists have repeatedly expressed the dangers associated with looking at the sun during the solar eclipse and the damage that it can cause to the eye. Even dark sunglasses do not provide enough protection. Therefore, to err on the side of safety, students at Discover U will remain indoors between 9am and noon. Our students will be watching this historical event via NASA's live stream and participating in various classroom activities.

Dear Kindergarten Parents/Guardians and Students:
We are extremely grateful that you have chosen Discover U, Home of the Explorers, as your child's school for kindergarten. Our kindergarteners are off to a great school year. Mrs. Thompson has helped to build a classroom community and a love of learning. We are very thankful she was able to step in and support our kindergarten class.
It is with much excitement that I announce our new kindergarten teacher, Ms. Pobuda. Ms. Pobuda was born and raised in southwest Michigan. She moved to the sunny state of Arizona in February of this year. She graduated from Western Michigan University with her bachelor’s degree. Ms. Pobuda has experience in a range of grade levels but her heart is in kindergarten. She is very excited to support all of her students as they grow as learners working alongside them to set goals and celebrate their achievements. Ms. Pobuda knows how important your child’s first official year of school is and will work to nurture, inspire, and empower each student.
Ms. Pobuda will be spending Thursday and Friday of this week shadowing and co-teaching with Mrs. Thompson, ensuring a smooth transition for all of our students. Ms. Pobuda will start Monday, August 14th as her first official day as your child’s teacher.
Ms. Pobuda is looking forward to meeting all of you at Curriculum Night on August 23rd. If you have any questions or would like to set up a time to meet Ms. Pobuda prior to August 23rd, please give her a call at (623)974-4827 ext. 103 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.

As the new School Leader of Discover U, I am honored and excited to join the “Home of the Explorers”. My visit on the last day of school made it clear to me that Discover U truly is a small, beautiful and thriving learning community where children and their parents are known and loved. I look forward to fostering these relationships and working with the Discover U faculty to keep our school focused on what is best for children to learn and grow.
I am an Arizona native and grew up in Peoria, Arizona. During my childhood, my teachers taught me that learning is more than memorization; it is about using the information gained to explore, analyze and create. My education consists of a Master of Education in educational leadership and a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Arizona State University. I served as a classroom teacher for seven years in the Tempe Elementary School District where I also was an administrative principal intern, a professional learning community mentor and part of the educational technology cadre. I then moved to Chicago, Illinois, where I have spent the last two years serving as an instructional coach. During this time, I have been working alongside teachers as they set learning goals for their students, writing curriculum for the district and providing professional development.
As an educational leader, my goal is to create a school that works for all kids by ensuring that all students are cared for, inspired and empowered as learners. It is my priority to create a positive school culture where children and learning are at the heart of everything we do.
My first official day is June 14, 2017. I look forward to meeting you and your child(ren) as we partner together for their social, emotional, and academic success. I am confident that by working together, Discover U will continue to be an incredible place for students to learn and grow. Please contact me at the school if you have any questions, concerns or for an introduction.
