Homework Policy
Meaningful homework reinforces classroom learning, builds independence, and strengthens the connection between home and school.
As part of our mission to empower students to reach their full potential, we are no longer a “no homework” policy school. Students receive regular assignments aligned to their current learning goals and grade-level standards.

Student Expectations
Complete assigned homework neatly and independently · bring completed homework back on time · use agenda books to record homework and check off completion · ask for help or clarification before assignments are due.
Parent & Guardian Responsibilities
Create a quiet, distraction-free work environment · establish a consistent routine (same time and place daily) · encourage independence · review completed work for effort and understanding, not perfection · check the agenda book and ensure IXL time is completed daily · communicate with teachers if your child is struggling.
Important Notes
Homework is designed to be manageable and meaningful — it should not cause frustration. Students should spend no more than 30–45 minutes total per evening, depending on grade level. Incomplete or missing homework may result in loss of Blast Bucks or classroom incentives; students with multiple missing assignments may be asked to complete work during lunch or recess, and families will be contacted.
Why Homework Matters at Discover U
Homework supports mastery of essential skills · development of self-discipline and independence · extension of learning beyond the classroom · increased family engagement and awareness.
