CJ joined Coach J’s team, The Ballers, at the YMCA, this spring. The team ended the season with a record of 4-4 and made the playoffs. The Ballers won 3 games in a row in the play-offs, including a nail biter with a win of 23-22. CJ played the center position and, according to Coach J, he has shown tremendous improvement since he joined the team. To top everything off, the Ballers won the city championship and are headed to state! Our Discover U family is super proud of CJ. Good luck at STATE!
Summer is coming soon and you may be thinking about what your child will do for meals while school is out. The good news is that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) partners with organizations in your local community to serve free meals through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). It’s food that’s in, while school is out. There are no income requirements, and any child age 18 and younger may come to eat.
Free meals, that meet Federal nutrition guidelines, are provided to all children at approved SFSP sites in areas with significant concentrations of low-income children by schools, private nonprofits and local or county government organizations. Unfortunately, we are not operating the SFSP this summer; however, SFSP feeding sites are located throughout the state of Arizona. They offer a combination of breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and suppers. Please visit the SFSP website (www.azsummerfood.gov) to learn more about the SFSP and to find information about feeding sites near you. Hope you have a healthy and fun summer – thank you!
