As the new School Leader of Discover U, I am honored and excited to join the “Home of the Explorers”. My visit on the last day of school made it clear to me that Discover U truly is a small, beautiful and thriving learning community where children and their parents are known and loved. I look forward to fostering these relationships and working with the Discover U faculty to keep our school focused on what is best for children to learn and grow.
I am an Arizona native and grew up in Peoria, Arizona. During my childhood, my teachers taught me that learning is more than memorization; it is about using the information gained to explore, analyze and create. My education consists of a Master of Education in educational leadership and a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Arizona State University. I served as a classroom teacher for seven years in the Tempe Elementary School District where I also was an administrative principal intern, a professional learning community mentor and part of the educational technology cadre. I then moved to Chicago, Illinois, where I have spent the last two years serving as an instructional coach. During this time, I have been working alongside teachers as they set learning goals for their students, writing curriculum for the district and providing professional development. As an educational leader, my goal is to create a school that works for all kids by ensuring that all students are cared for, inspired and empowered as learners. It is my priority to create a positive school culture where children and learning are at the heart of everything we do. My first official day is June 14, 2017. I look forward to meeting you and your child(ren) as we partner together for their social, emotional, and academic success. I am confident that by working together, Discover U will continue to be an incredible place for students to learn and grow. Please contact me at the school if you have any questions, concerns or for an introduction. Sincerely, Ms. Makowski School Leader Discover U
